So, things have been a bit stressful here at Casa Covington the past few weeks. When we were up in the mountains coming down the trail after exploring the cave, Kevin fell and broke his wrist in 2 places. He is now sporting the fabulous accessory shown above for the next 4 to 6 weeks. It is on his right arm which has proved problematic at times.On top of that, I am due to have surgery in 2 weeks to have my thyroid removed. I have a mass on my thyroid that I have known about for a few years. They have been monitoring it and recently it grew. I had it biopsied and the biopsy came back "suspicious for malignancy". Apparently they saw some cells of a certain type of thyroid cancer but having the cells doesn't definitively mean you have the cancer. The only way to know for sure is to have the thyroid removed and to have the entire thing biopsied. So, for the past few weeks and until I have the surgery Kevin and I are a bit preoccupied with wondering whether I do or do not have cancer.
Fortunately, if it does end up being cancer, most thyroid cancers are pretty slow growing and usually only contained to the thyroid. Surgery takes care of most of it and then I would have to take a radioactive iodine medication to kill the rest. Hopefully, though, it will be benign and I won't have to do that.
Adding to all of this, on our way to swimming this week, the boys and I got into a car accident. Because, you know, we need more stress around the house right now. The things some people will do to get attention! Fortunately, no one was hurt but the car had to be towed away and we will be driving a rental for the next few weeks. I am just hoping that they can get my car fixed before surgery.
On a funny note, I have Allstate insurance and when I called them to report the accident I told them that the other driver also has Allstate. They said that since we both have Allstate, they were going to waive my $500 deductible. I told the lady that I will be sure to only hit Allstate drivers from now on!
